If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you know I try to keep things real, especially when it comes to what we’re eating in our home. These keto peanut butter cookies are one of those simple recipes that help us do just that.

Over the past several years, I’ve had to be more mindful about my health. With diabetes on both sides of my family, keeping an eye on my A1C isn’t something I can ignore.

That doesn’t mean we stop enjoying food. It just means we learn how to make it a little differently.

This keto peanut butter cookies recipe is one of those simple swaps that has made a big difference for me.

It actually started as the most basic peanut butter cookie recipe you can imagine, and we’ve just adjusted it along the way.

Why We Love These Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

These keto peanut butter cookies have become a go-to in our home simply because they make life easier.

They only use a few ingredients, come together quickly, and don’t require a lot of thought when you need something sweet on hand.

For our family, they’re a simple way to be a little more mindful without overcomplicating things. We’re not all-or-nothing eaters around here, but we do try to make small adjustments where it makes sense.

And honestly, my daughter actually prefers the keto version over the regular. She says they’re less sweet, which surprised me at first, but makes sense once you try them.

If you’re someone who doesn’t love overly sweet desserts, you may find yourself reaching for this version too.

A Simple Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe Behind These Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

Before we ever made a keto version, this was the recipe we used:

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

That’s it.

You mix everything together, roll into small balls, place them on a baking sheet, and gently press them down with a fork in a crisscross pattern.

Bake, let them cool slightly, and they’re ready to enjoy.

It’s one of those recipes you don’t even have to write down after you’ve made it once.

How to Make Keto Peanut Butter Cookies at Home

To turn this into keto peanut butter cookies, we simply swap a couple of ingredients:

Use no sugar peanut butter (We absolutely love Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter)

Replace the sugar with Swerve confectioners

Everything else stays the same.

Mix, roll, press, and bake.

Same process. Same simplicity. Just a different outcome for your body.

These keto peanut butter cookies are soft, chewy, and made with just 3 simple ingredients. Perfect for a quick, low carb treat.

Choosing Ingredients for Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

I personally like to use a clean, all natural peanut butter when I can. My go-to is Smucker’s natural peanut butter.

It keeps the ingredient list simple and avoids added sugars that can sneak in.

Best Sweeteners for Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

Right now, I’ve been using Swerve confectioners for this recipe, and it works well.

I’ve seen some newer blends using allulose and monk fruit, and I may test those in the future, but for now I always like to share what I know works first.

Tips for the Best Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

Don’t overbake. They should be slightly soft in the center when you pull them out.

Let them cool on the pan for a few minutes before moving them.

Use a fork to gently press them down, no need to flatten too much.

How to Store Keto Peanut Butter Cookies

These keto peanut butter cookies are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

In our home, I simply place them in a cookie jar with a tight seal, and they stay soft and chewy for several days. Honestly, they don’t last long enough to worry much about storage around here.

Keto Peanut Butter Cookies Recipe

Ingredients (Keto Version)

1 cup no sugar peanut butter

1 cup Swerve confectioners

1 egg

Ingredients (Classic Version)

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a bowl, mix all ingredients until combined.

Roll dough into small balls and place on a baking sheet.

Use a fork to gently press each cookie in a crisscross pattern.

Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are set.

Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Why Simple Keto Peanut Butter Cookies Matter

If you’re on a similar journey, don’t feel like you have to change everything all at once. Start small. Swap where you can. Recipes like these keto peanut butter cookies, along with other simple options like low-carb snacks and breakfast ideas on the blog, can make the transition feel much more doable.

Whether you’re making the classic version or the keto peanut butter cookies, this is one of those recipes that reminds me simple really can be enough.

We don’t always have to overcomplicate things to take care of our families, or ourselves.

Sometimes it’s just about making small, intentional changes that add up over time.

And if you’re in a season of learning, adjusting, or just trying to do better one step at a time, you’re not alone in that.

Join the Rooted Table

If you enjoy simple, real-life recipes like this, I’d love for you to join my Rooted Table emails.

It’s where I share new recipes, a little encouragement, and the why behind what we’re making in our home each month.

So if you tried this recipe, I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment below or share this with a friend who might need a simple, better-for-you treat in their kitchen too.

Remember, I’m always praying for you, even if I don’t know who you are.

Have you ever walked into a room to do something… and then completely forgotten why you were there?

You stand there for a second, trying to retrace your steps. Maybe something distracted you along the way. Maybe someone called your name. Maybe your phone buzzed and pulled your attention somewhere else. Before you know it, what you set out to do is gone from your mind.

I started thinking about that the other day, and it hit me.

That’s exactly what happens when we’re trying to walk with God in a noisy world.

Galatians 5:16-17 says:

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

Lately, this verse has been sitting heavy on my heart. Not in a condemning way, but in a calling way. A gentle reminder that there is always a pull happening inside of us.

One is pulling us toward the things of God. The other is pulling us toward everything else.

And if I’m being honest, sometimes that “everything else” can get really loud.

Prefer to listen? You can hear this encouragement here:

The Noise We Don’t Always Recognize

This blog post isn’t about a book, but a book (For Women Who Are Call by Women Who Have Answered by Kim Haney) did stir something in me. As I was reading, a quote stopped me in my tracks:

“Sometimes, you have to get to the place where you must quiet the noise! God does not scream nor is He rude to interrupt. He speaks in a still, small voice to those who long to hear His words. All true ministry is simply relaying to people the words of the Lord. However, I cannot give what I do not hear.”

— For Women Who Are Called by Women Who Have Answered, p. 7–8

That last line made me stop and think, “Hold up…what did that say?”

I cannot give what I do not hear.

That one statement made me start paying attention to something I had noticed before, but not in the way I thought I would.

The noise.

Because noise comes in all forms, and sometimes it doesn’t look loud at all. Sometimes it just looks like normal life. Responsibilities, routines, things that need to get done.

For me, sometimes it looks like the chaos of my home. Things out of place. A room that feels undone. And suddenly, my mind feels the same way.

I wouldn’t call myself a perfectionist, but I do love order. I like things to feel settled. And when that order feels off, it’s like everything in me starts to spiral just a little, even if I try to ignore it.

Maybe that sounds dramatic.

But it’s real.

And it made me realize something important.

I’ve learned what noise sounds like in my life.

Guarding your heart begins with learning to quiet the noise so you can hear God clearly.

Guarding Your Heart Starts with Awareness

Once you recognize the noise, you start seeing it everywhere.

Sometimes it’s as simple as picking up your phone.

You see a notification. You tap it. You check one thing, then another, and before you know it, thirty minutes are gone. Not because you meant to stay there, but because noise has a way of pulling you in quietly and keeping you longer than you intended.

Other times, it’s what we’re allowing into our minds without even thinking about it.

What we watch. What we listen to. Who we surround ourselves with.

All of it matters more than we think because all of it is shaping something inside of us.

I shared in another post, Let This Mind Be In You, that when our mindset begins to shift toward the things of God, everything else begins to follow. The way we think changes. The way we speak changes. Even the way we live begins to reflect Him more clearly.

That shift doesn’t happen by accident, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It happens in the small, daily choices we make about what we allow into our hearts and what we choose to dwell on.

And if I’m honest, this is where it gets a little more personal.

Because it’s one thing to recognize the noise around us. It’s another thing to let God deal with what’s happening inside of us.

Another quote from Kim Haney’s book really hit home with me:

“You can lay over an altar all day long and weep and cry and pray, then get up from that place of worship and refuse to recognize that carnal, worldly thing in your life that is attached to you as a spirit sucker—something that keeps you from advancing, growing, and maturing in God.”

— For Women Who Are Called by Women Who Have Answered, p. 146

That’s a hard truth.

Because sometimes it’s not just the noise around us.

Sometimes it’s what we allow to stay attached to us.

And no amount of prayer will move us forward if we are unwilling to let God deal with the things that are quietly draining us.

And that’s where guarding your heart really begins.

Why Guarding Your Heart Matters More Than We Think

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
– Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

Guarding your heart isn’t just about avoiding the “big” things we often think about.

It’s about recognizing the small, subtle distractions that slowly pull you away from hearing His voice. The things that don’t seem harmful at first, but over time, they begin to crowd out the quiet places where God wants to meet with you.

The enemy doesn’t always come in loud and obvious ways. Sometimes it’s distraction. Sometimes it’s busyness. Sometimes it’s simply keeping you so full of noise that you never slow down long enough to listen.

And when that happens, we don’t even realize what we’re missing.

Because it’s in the quiet where God speaks.

Learning to Quiet the Noise and Listen

I had a moment recently during prayer where I stopped talking.

I just listened.

And the words that kept coming to my heart were simple.

“Make me a vessel.”

Not loud. Not overwhelming. Just steady and gentle, but clear.

And in that moment, it was like the Lord gently reminded me of something I needed to hear.

He hasn’t left me. He hasn’t forgotten me. He hasn’t been silent.

I just needed to quiet the noise long enough to hear Him.

As I sat there, it felt like the Lord wrapped His arms around me in a way I can’t fully explain. Like a mother comforting her child after they’ve been hurt. The kind of moment where everything doesn’t magically fix itself, but you know deep down that it’s going to be okay.

And the truth is… I almost missed it.

Not because God wasn’t speaking, but because there was so much competing for my attention.

Guarding Your Heart in a Noisy World Looks Like This

If we don’t guard our hearts, the noise will fill the space that was meant for His voice.

And if I’m honest, I can’t do what God has called me to do if I’m constantly distracted. I can’t pour into others if I’m not first listening to Him. I can’t walk in the Spirit if I’m always pulled in another direction.

I can’t give what I do not hear.

So maybe this isn’t about doing more.

Maybe it’s about quieting more.

Turning down the noise where we can. Stepping away from the distractions when we need to. Creating space, even in small moments, to hear Him again.

Because when we walk in the Spirit, like Galatians reminds us, something begins to change inside of us. Not all at once, but little by little, day by day.

And in a world that never seems to slow down, guarding your heart might just start with choosing what you allow to have your attention and choosing, again and again, to listen for Him.

A Gentle Invitation

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, distracted, or just a little disconnected lately, you’re not alone. Life gets loud. Responsibilities pile up. And sometimes we don’t even realize how much noise we’re carrying until we stop long enough to notice it.

So here’s a gentle invitation for you this week.

Take a moment. Just one.

Turn everything else down, even if it’s only for a few minutes, and simply sit with the Lord. You don’t have to have the perfect words. You don’t have to have it all together.

Just come.

Listen.

Let Him meet you right where you are.

You might be surprised at what you hear when everything else gets quiet.

If this spoke to your heart today, I would love for you to share it with someone else who might need this reminder too. You never know who is feeling the same pull and just needs a little encouragement to pause and listen.

And if you’re longing for more encouragement like this each week, I would love for you to join my Stay Rooted emails. It’s where I share Scripture, real-life moments, and gentle reminders to help you stay grounded in your walk with the Lord, even when life feels chaotic.

You don’t have to do this alone. We’re walking this together.

And the quotes I shared came from a book that has truly challenged and encouraged me in this season. I’ve linked it below if you’d like to take a deeper look.

For Women Who Are Called by Women Who Have Answered by Kim Haney

Remember, I’m always praying for you—even if I don’t know who you are.

Have you ever caught yourself reacting in a way that made you stop and think… Lord, I still have some growing to do?

Maybe it was in traffic. Maybe it was during a stressful moment at home. Maybe it was when someone spoke to you in a way that rubbed you the wrong way. Those moments have a way of revealing what is really happening inside of us.

Not because we are terrible people, but because God often uses everyday situations to shape something deeper in our hearts.

This post is a companion to Season 2, Episode 6 of the Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos podcast. In this episode, we talk about how our words reveal what is in our hearts and how God uses those moments to grow our character.

You can listen to the full episode right here:

Faithfulness and Character Go Together

In our last episode, Faithful in the Small Things: Finding God in Everyday Faithfulness, we talked about being faithful in the small things. This builds directly on that, because faithfulness and character are closely connected.

Faithfulness is often what people see on the outside. Character is what God is shaping on the inside. And many times, the two grow together.

God is not just interested in what we do for Him. He is working on who we are becoming as we walk with Him.

The Fruit of the Spirit

One of the clearest pictures of Christian character is found in Galatians 5:22–23:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance."

Notice it says fruit, not fruits.

These qualities grow together as the Spirit works in our lives. Love shapes how we treat people. Peace steadies us when life feels overwhelming. Patience develops when we are stretched. Self-control grows when our emotions want to take over.

This kind of growth does not happen overnight. It develops over time as we continue walking with God.

What’s in the Heart Comes Out

Jesus gives us a clear picture of this in Luke 6. He explains that a good tree produces good fruit, and a corrupt tree produces corrupt fruit. The fruit always reveals the condition of the tree.

Then in Luke 6:45 He says:

"For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."

Jesus also says in Matthew 15:18 that what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart.

In other words, what is inside of us will eventually come out of us.

We have all had moments where something comes out of our mouth and we think, where did that come from?

But the truth is, it was already there.

Pressure has a way of revealing what is inside. That is why Scripture teaches us to guard our hearts. When our hearts are filled with frustration, bitterness, or pride, those things will show up in our words.

But when we allow God to fill our hearts with His Word, His peace, and His perspective, those are the things that begin to come out instead.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
This episode is a heart check we all need.

Character Is Built in the Everyday

Building Christian character does not usually happen in big, dramatic moments. Most of the time, it shows up in everyday situations.

It may look like choosing patience when someone is short with you. It may look like responding kindly when you feel frustrated. It may look like pausing before you speak and asking the Lord to guide your words.

These are the places where character is practiced and strengthened.

A consistent walk with God makes a difference in these moments. Time in prayer softens our hearts. Time in Scripture helps guide our thinking. Staying connected to the Lord helps us respond instead of react.

A Life That Reflects Christ

Our character becomes a testimony to the people around us.

The way we respond, the way we treat people, and the way we carry ourselves says something about the God we serve. Often, our actions speak long before we ever say a word about our faith.

The word Christian means Christ-like. None of us live that out perfectly, but as God continues to work in our hearts, our lives begin to reflect Him more and more.

Sometimes it is those quiet moments of kindness, patience, or grace that God uses to draw someone else closer to Him.

Growing One Step at a Time

If you feel like God has been working on your heart lately, that is a good thing.

Character is not built in one big moment. It grows through everyday choices, little by little, day by day.

God is patient with the process. He is not asking for instant perfection. He is asking us to keep walking with Him and to allow Him to keep shaping our hearts.

Over time, those small changes begin to reflect something beautiful… a life that looks more like Christ.

Let’s Stay Rooted

We tend to pay attention to the big moments… the big decisions, the big prayers, the big steps of faith. But most of life isn’t made up of big moments. It’s made up of small, quiet ones that can feel almost invisible.

This post is a companion to Season 2, Episode 5 of the Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos podcast, where we talk about what it really means to be faithful in the small things and why those moments matter more than we often realize.

The Seed That Doesn’t Look Like Much

Imagine someone handing you a tiny seed and asking you to take care of it.

It doesn’t look like much. It’s small and easy to overlook. If you dropped it, you might never find it again. But that small seed holds the potential to become something far greater than what you can see in the moment.

If you water it, protect it, and tend to it, it grows. But if you ignore it because it seems too small to matter, that potential is lost before it ever has the chance to develop.

Our walk with God often looks the same way. We can be so focused on the big moments that we forget God is watching how we handle the small ones.

Faithfulness isn’t proven in the big moments. It’s built in the quiet choices no one sees. Listen to the full episode on everyday faithfulness.

Faithfulness Starts Small

Jesus makes this clear in Luke 16:10:

"He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much."

At first glance, that verse sounds simple. But when you really sit with it, it shifts how you see your everyday life.

Faithfulness is not proven when everything is big and visible. It is revealed in the quiet places where no one else is watching.

This reminds me of the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14–30. One servant was given five talents, another two, and another just one. The ones who used what they were given were trusted with more, but the servant who hid his talent out of fear lost even what he had.

The point was never how much they started with. The point was what they did with what they had been given.

And the same is true for us. God is not asking us to compare our lives to someone else’s. He is asking us to be faithful with what He has placed in our hands.

Where Faithfulness Is Formed

Most of life is made up of ordinary moments.

Small responsibilities, small acts of obedience, and small decisions that no one else sees are where faithfulness begins to take root. It’s waking up tired and still choosing to pray. It’s showing kindness when you’re frustrated. It’s continuing to serve even when you feel unnoticed.

Those moments may not look significant, but they matter deeply to God because they are the places where character is formed.

Throughout Scripture, we see that God often prepares people quietly before He entrusts them with more. David was tending sheep long before he faced Goliath. Joseph was faithful in a prison cell before he ruled in Egypt. The disciples followed Jesus in ordinary, daily life before they ever stood before crowds.

Faithfulness grows in the ordinary places, and that means the small things in your life right now are not wasted.

What Faithfulness Looks Like in Real Life

Faithfulness shows up in ways we might not always notice.

It can look like returning extra change to a cashier when no one would know if you kept it. It can look like choosing patience when someone speaks harshly to you, even when you are already having a difficult day. It can look like choosing integrity when it would be easier to cut a corner.

These are the moments that feel small, but they are the very places where faithfulness is developed.

Something I have learned over the years is that a consistent prayer life changes how we respond in those moments. When we spend time with the Lord, He shapes our hearts, steadies our emotions, and reminds us who we represent.

Faithfulness is not just lived out on Sunday morning. It is lived out on Tuesday afternoon in the middle of a grocery store, in conversations at home, and in the quiet choices we make throughout the day.

Faithfulness in the House of God

Another part of faithfulness that often gets overlooked is simply being in the house of God.

There are real seasons when life makes it difficult, and that is understood. But when we are able, being present matters more than we sometimes realize.

There is something strengthening about gathering with other believers, hearing the Word, and worshiping together. Many times we walk into church tired or distracted and leave encouraged and refreshed.

That is why mid-week services can be such a gift. They act as a reset, helping steady our hearts and giving us strength to keep walking faithfully through the rest of the week.

Faithfulness often looks like simply showing up and placing ourselves where God can speak to us.

The Roots You Cannot See

So much of what God is doing in our lives happens beneath the surface.

It looks like continuing to pray for your family even when you do not see change yet. It looks like raising your children to love the Lord in the middle of long and exhausting days. It looks like serving faithfully even when no one seems to notice.

Those moments may not look impressive to the world, but they matter deeply in the Kingdom of God. They are the places where trust is formed and where faithfulness grows strong roots.

Just like a seed develops underground before anything is visible above the surface, God often works in quiet places before He brings visible growth.

One Faithful Step at a Time

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Responsibilities pile up, emotions run high, and it can feel like you are just trying to keep your head above water.

But walking with God does not happen all at once. It happens one faithful step at a time.

We are not called to rush spiritual growth. Just like a child grows over time, our faith develops step by step. Many of those steps happen in ordinary moments where we simply choose to be faithful.

A Gentle Reminder

If your life feels ordinary right now… if your faithfulness feels quiet… if you wonder whether the small things really matter…

Remember this.

God sees every faithful step. Nothing done for Him is ever wasted. The small acts of obedience you make today are building something far stronger than you may realize.

You do not have to do something big to be faithful. Start with what is right in front of you. Choose honesty, choose kindness, choose prayer, and choose to keep showing up where God is working in your life.

Those small choices, day after day, are how a faithful life is built.

Let’s Stay Connected

If this message encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who may need the same reminder.

This post is a companion to Season 2, Episode 2 of the Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos podcast. In this episode, we take a deeper look at what happens when obedience runs into resistance… and how easy it is to shift our focus without even realizing it.

You can listen to the full episode right here:

When Obedience Meets Resistance

Living for God is not always easy.

Not because He stops being faithful. Not because His Word stops being true. But because obedience often runs straight into resistance.

That’s exactly what we see in the book of Haggai.

God’s people had returned from exile just like He asked them to. They began rebuilding the temple. They were doing what they were supposed to do.

But then opposition came.

Fear crept in. Discouragement followed. And slowly, almost without noticing it, the work stopped.

The Subtle Shift

What makes this story so relatable is that they didn’t turn away from God completely.

They simply shifted their focus.

Instead of continuing the work, they turned inward. They focused on their homes, their comfort, and their sense of stability. They told themselves, “The time has not come.”

Not never… just not now.

And if we’re being honest, that’s where many of us find ourselves.

When things get hard, when resistance feels heavy, it becomes easier to focus on what feels manageable… our routines, our responsibilities, the things we can control.

There’s nothing wrong with caring for your home or your family. God never rebuked them for that.

The issue was priority.

God’s house was neglected while personal comfort was protected.

It’s easy to focus on what’s right in front of us—but God gently calls us back to kingdom priorities. Listen to the full episode at makinmacon.com/podcast.

“Consider Your Ways”

One of the most powerful moments in Haggai is when God speaks to His people and simply says, “Consider your ways.”

He wasn’t yelling. He wasn’t condemning. He was calling them to pause and look honestly at where their time, energy, and focus had gone.

And that same question applies to us today.

Where has resistance caused us to pull back?

Where has fear quietly redirected our focus?

Where have we labeled something as “waiting on God” when it may actually be retreat?

When Tiredness Shifts Our Focus

One of the hardest parts of walking with God is learning how to stay focused when we’re tired.

Because tiredness doesn’t just affect our bodies… it affects our perspective.

When we’re weary, we become more vulnerable to distraction, more drawn to comfort, and more likely to choose what feels safe over what requires faith.

And the enemy doesn’t always try to pull us into obvious sin.

Sometimes he simply tries to wear us down.

He presses on our schedules, our finances, our families, and our peace until obedience starts to feel overwhelming.

God’s Answer to Fear

God’s response in Haggai is simple, but powerful:

“My Spirit remains among you. Fear ye not.” — Haggai 2:4–5 (KJV)

God wasn’t asking them to rebuild in their own strength. He was reminding them that His presence had never left.

And the same is true for us.

We are not called to carry the weight of obedience alone. We are called to trust the One who is with us.

Choosing Kingdom Over Comfort

There’s a tension here that we all feel… the pull toward comfort and the call toward obedience.

The desire for stability… and the invitation to trust God fully.

Jesus made it clear that Kingdom work would require something from us. Not just when it’s easy. Not just when it fits into our schedule. But even when it stretches us.

Because what God is building is always greater than what we would build on our own.

The Promise That Keeps Us Moving

God gives His people a promise in Haggai that still speaks today:

“The latter glory of this house shall be greater than of the former…” — Haggai 2:9 (KJV)

In other words… what He is doing now will be greater than what has been.

But it requires something from us.

It requires that we keep going, that we don’t retreat when it gets hard, and that we don’t trade obedience for comfort.

A Gentle Heart Check

If this stirred something in you, take a moment to sit with the Lord.

Not in guilt. Not in pressure. But in honesty.

Ask Him to show you where your focus has been. Ask Him to help you discern the difference between rest and retreat.

Because sometimes obedience looks like slowing down… and sometimes it looks like pressing through.

And learning the difference is where growth happens.

Let’s Stay Connected

If this post encouraged you, I’d love for you to share it with someone who may need it too.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you just stop and think… “I don’t know how I’m going to do all of this.” Not in a dramatic way. Just… real. That kind of tired that sits a little deeper.

The kind where your mind is running through everything that needs to be done, and you’re trying to figure out how to hold it all together and still be present for the people you love.

If that’s where you are right now, I want you to know—you’re not alone.

This week on the podcast, I shared a very real, very honest moment from my own life. Not a polished version. Not a “I’ve got it all figured out” version.

Just real life.

When Life Feels Like Too Much

Lately, life has felt full.

Good things. Hard things. Unexpected things.

From stepping into something new with Macon Sweet Farms… To walking through financial stress… To trying to balance family, home, and everything in between…

It’s been a lot.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I found myself saying it out loud:

“God… I’m tired.”

Trusting God When You Don’t Understand

There’s a verse I keep coming back to in this season:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

If I’m honest, the hard part isn’t reading that verse.

It’s living it.

Because trusting God sounds simple… until you’re in a situation where nothing makes sense.

Until things don’t line up. Until the answers aren’t clear. Until you feel stretched further than you expected.

That’s where trust becomes a choice.

Faith Is Still a Choice

God has always given us a choice. From the very beginning. He didn’t force love. He didn’t force obedience. He gave the opportunity to choose.

And He still does the same for us today.

We get to choose:

Will I trust Him here?

Will I lean on Him instead of myself?

Will I wait on His timing… or rush ahead on my own?

And I’ll be honest with you—I want His way.

Because I’ve seen what happens when He moves.

Remembering What God Has Already Done

There have been moments in my life where God showed up in ways I could never explain.

Real miracles.

One of the most personal ones was the journey to having our daughter.

After years of waiting… wondering… praying… God fulfilled His promise.

Not just in His timing… but in a way that was more personal than I could have imagined.

That’s what He does.

“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
— Psalm 37:4 (KJV)

Sometimes we forget what He’s already done… when we’re standing in the middle of what He’s doing right now.

When You’re Tired, Keep Taking the Step

I heard someone explain faith like this once:

It’s like standing at the edge of a cliff and stepping forward when you can’t see where your foot is going to land.

That’s what faith looks like.

That’s where I’ve been lately. Tired. Unsure. Still moving forward. Not because I have it all figured out… but because I trust the One who does.

A Gentle Reminder for You

If you’re in a season where you feel stretched… where things feel uncertain… where you’re wondering how it’s all going to come together…

I want to remind you of this:

God is still writing your story.

You don’t have to see the end to trust the Author.

Just take the next step.

Even if it feels small. Even if it feels shaky.

He will meet you there.

There was a time when I felt completely overwhelmed trying to understand essential oil dilution, especially when trying to find an essential oil dilution guide that actually made sense. Every article seemed to say something slightly different, and I often found myself going back to my notes or checking trusted resources just to make sure I was doing things correctly.

I’m certainly not an expert, but over time I’ve learned a few simple guidelines that make using essential oils at home much easier. When I’m unsure about something, I still double‑check my information.

Today I want to share the simple dilution approach I use in my own home so you can feel more confident creating blends without second‑guessing yourself.

Why an Essential Oil Dilution Guide Matters

Essential oils are highly concentrated. A single drop can contain plant compounds from a surprisingly large amount of plant material. Because of this concentration, dilution is commonly recommended by aromatherapy educators and essential oil safety guides.

Proper dilution helps oils spread more evenly across the skin, reduces the chance of irritation, and allows blends to last longer. It also helps keep everyday use gentle and practical for families who want to incorporate oils into normal routines.

When essential oils are combined with carrier oils or properly diluted in sprays and diffusers, they become much easier to use safely in the home.

Simple Essential Oil Dilution for Roller Bottles

Roller bottles are one of the easiest ways to use essential oils throughout the day. For a standard 10 ml roller bottle, a gentle everyday dilution usually falls between six and ten total drops of essential oil. After adding the oils, the rest of the bottle is filled with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil. Personally, I tend to reach for fractionated coconut oil most often because it feels light on the skin and doesn’t seem to leave a heavy or greasy residue.

This range generally creates a dilution around one to two percent, which is commonly recommended for everyday use. Many people enjoy roller blends for headaches, calming support, sleep routines, or seasonal discomfort.

Once blended, the roller can be applied to the wrists, back of the neck, or bottoms of the feet whenever a moment of support is needed.

Diluting Essential Oils for Room Sprays

Room sprays are a simple way to freshen your home or enjoy a blend without turning on the diffuser. The ratio I use most often is for a four‑ounce spray bottle.

To make a spray, start by adding about one ounce of witch hazel to the bottle. Essential oils are then mixed into that first before adding roughly three ounces of distilled water. Most room sprays fall somewhere between ten and twenty total drops of essential oil depending on how strong you prefer the scent.

I prefer using amber spray bottles for these blends because darker glass helps protect the oils from light and helps preserve their quality over time. Once everything is combined, simply shake the bottle well before each use and lightly mist around the room, on linens, or into the air.

Essential Oil Dilution for Diffusers

Diffusers are one of the simplest ways to enjoy essential oils because they do not require a carrier oil. For most standard diffusers that hold around 200–300 ml of water, a typical recommendation is three to six drops of essential oil total.

If you are combining oils in a blend, the drops can simply be divided between them. For example, a calming blend might include four drops of lavender and two drops of chamomile. Each oil actually carries its own scent strength and note, so sometimes you may naturally use more of one oil than another to create a balanced aroma. Learning how oils work together takes a little practice, but that is a whole deeper lesson for another day.

Most aromatherapy educators recommend diffusing for about thirty to sixty minutes at a time in a well‑ventilated room. Many diffusers also include intermittent settings, which can help prevent over‑diffusing.

A Few Practical Safety Reminders

Essential oils can be wonderful tools in the home, but thoughtful use is important. When creating a new blend, it is always wise to start gently and test oils in small amounts.

It’s also helpful to test blends on a small patch of skin before regular use, use extra caution with children, pets, or during pregnancy, and store oils out of reach of children.

If you would like to dig deeper into essential oil safety and blending, there are many helpful resources available online. One I’ve personally found helpful is the Simply Earth blog and their Essential Oil Hero Course that comes with their monthly subscription box. I also appreciate that their subscription boxes are flexible — you can pause them anytime if a month doesn’t apply to you or you already have the oils included.

If you decide to try the Simply Earth subscription box, you can use my code MAKINMACONFREE. New subscribers receive a $45 gift card after their first box purchase, which makes it easier to keep learning and experimenting with oils at home.

Essential Oils I Reach for Most Often

If you are just starting out with essential oils, you do not need a large collection. In my own home, I find myself reaching for a small group of oils again and again. Lavender is wonderful for calming blends, lemon helps brighten the atmosphere of a room, peppermint can feel refreshing during seasonal changes, orange adds a cheerful scent to diffuser blends, and cedarwood brings a grounding, woodsy balance.

These few oils alone can be combined in many different ways and work well in diffuser blends, cleaning recipes, and simple rollers.

Save this essential oil dilution guide so you can quickly reference the simple ratios for roller bottles, room sprays, and diffusers when creating your own blends at home.

Simple Blends Make the Best Rhythms

Essential oils do not need to be complicated to be helpful. Some of the blends I use most often are the simplest ones. When you understand a few basic dilution guidelines, it becomes much easier to create blends that support your home and everyday routines.

If you enjoy learning about essential oils and simple homemaking rhythms, be sure to explore the Essential Oils section here on Makin’ Macon. And if you’d like to receive new blends, natural living ideas, and encouragement before they reach the blog, I share those first with my Fragrant Faith email group.

Convert recipes to fresh milled flour — that was the phrase I kept typing into search bars when my bread kept coming out flat and my loaves felt heavier than they should.

When I first started baking, I did everything cup for cup. That’s how I was taught. It was simple. It worked well enough. And in a busy season of life, simple is often what we reach for.

Even when I moved into sourdough, I knew measuring in grams gave better results — but if I’m honest, I still grabbed the measuring cups more often than not. Why? Because it was easy. And easy felt manageable.

But when I started working with fresh milled flour, cup-for-cup stopped working.

My loaves were dense.
My bread baked flatter than usual.
Some batches felt dry, others strangely sticky — especially in the breads I was testing.

There are still failures in my kitchen.

I don’t know how long it will take to really learn this. I don’t know that I’ll ever stop learning. But I do know I’m closer than I was — and that feels like progress.

Why You Can’t Convert Recipes to Fresh Milled Flour Cup-for-Cup

What I learned is this: commercial flour and fresh milled flour do not weigh the same — even if the measuring cup says “1 cup.”

Commercial flour is milled finely and sifted. It’s compact and uniform.

Fresh milled flour is lighter, fluffier, and contains the bran and germ. Because of that, less flour fits into a cup by weight.

Through research, reading, and a lot of personal testing, I kept seeing the same starting point referenced: about 120 grams per cup of fresh milled flour.

That number isn’t magic — but it gives you a consistent baseline.

Once I began weighing my flour instead of scooping it, my results immediately became more predictable. I use a simple digital kitchen scale – nothing fancy – just something accurate and reliable.

Grams removed the guessing.

What Happened When I Tried to Convert Recipes to Fresh Milled Flour Using Grams

The first time I converted one of my familiar recipes using weight instead of cups, I noticed something important: my dough behaved differently — in a good way.

Fresh milled flour absorbs more liquid than commercial flour, especially hard white wheat. What feels sticky at first often improves dramatically after rest.

When I rushed it, my bread felt tight and dense.
When I allowed it to rest, it relaxed and rose better.

It wasn’t that the recipe was wrong. It was that the flour needed time — something I didn’t fully understand until I started paying attention to hydration and rest.

A Recent Bread Machine Test

Just recently, I decided to test my Simple French Bread recipe in the bread machine using fresh milled flour.

The first loaf? Flat.

I was so hopeful — and so disappointed.

The second loaf? Very, very promising.

Still a little dense. Still not quite that perfect “bread flour” texture. And I honestly don’t know if fresh milled flour will ever mimic commercial bread flour exactly.

But when my daughter took a bite and said it felt like she had gone to Subway and bought a sandwich — that said everything.

We had made this bread to go with dinner that night, and the next day she used the leftovers for sandwiches — and here’s something else I’ve noticed with fresh milled flour: it’s filling.

Where before we could probably eat an entire loaf between the four of us — because let’s be honest, we love our bread — now we can’t even finish half.

That tells me something is different — in a good way.

If you’re learning how to convert recipes to fresh milled flour, save this as a reminder that weighing in grams and adjusting hydration truly makes the difference.

Fresh Milled Flour and Hydration

By the time I realized hydration was the issue, I had already had a few flat loaves under my belt.

Fresh milled flour doesn’t just need more liquid — it needs time with that liquid.

Here’s what that has looked like practically in my kitchen:

I don’t panic if the dough feels sticky at first.

I mix and then step away.

I let it sit before deciding if it needs more flour.

I remind myself that fresh milled flour is still absorbing.

With batters, that might mean letting them rest 10–20 minutes before baking.

With hard wheat doughs, it often means an autolyse stage — mixing flour and water first and letting it sit before adding other ingredients.

Hydration isn’t complicated, but it does require patience. And patience has not always been my strongest quality in the kitchen.

But the more I allow that rest time, the more consistent my results become.

What About Vital Wheat Gluten?

As I continued converting bread recipes, I realized something else was affecting my results: structure.

Fresh milled flour contains the entire wheat berry — including the bran. That bran is nutritious, but it can slightly interfere with gluten development in certain breads, especially soft sandwich-style loaves.

In some recipes, adding a small amount of vital wheat gluten — which is simply a concentrated wheat protein — can help strengthen the dough and improve rise.

Some bakers prefer not to use vital wheat gluten, especially if they’re aiming for a very minimal or ultra-clean ingredient list. That’s a personal decision every family makes.

For me, it’s simply a tool. I use it when I need extra structure, especially in sandwich breads, while I continue testing ways to develop strength naturally through hydration, rest, and technique.

Like everything else in this journey, I’m learning when it’s helpful — and when it’s not.

Charts Are a Starting Point — Not a Rule

At some point in my research, I found a helpful flour conversion chart created by Grains in Small Places. It shows cup-to-gram measurements and even how much wheat to mill to yield specific amounts of flour.

You can view their conversion chart here: Grains In Small Placed Conversion Chart

It’s incredibly helpful as a reference — especially when you’re first learning to convert recipes to fresh milled flour.

But even charts are just starting points.

Every recipe behaves differently.

Cookies spread differently.
Biscuits rise differently.
Yeast breads require careful hydration.
Sourdough demands patience.

There is no universal formula.

There is observation.
There are notes.
There is testing.

Where I Am Right Now

Learning to convert recipes to fresh milled flour has required more patience than I expected.

But I’m getting closer.

Here’s what I consistently do now:

Weigh flour in grams

Start around 120g per cup as a baseline

Expect to adjust liquid

Always allow rest time

Take notes

Test familiar recipes before trying new ones

Fresh milled flour hasn’t complicated my kitchen — it’s made me more attentive.

And that attentiveness has improved my baking more than any shortcut ever did.

Thank you for following along with my journey here.

We’re learning this one recipe at a time.

And that’s enough.

There’s something about March that makes the dust suddenly more noticeable. And when I start noticing it, I usually find myself looking for a simple essential oil floor cleaner that I know I can trust.

Maybe it’s the sunlight hitting the floors differently. Maybe it’s knowing winter is on its way out. Whatever it is, this is the month I start looking around and thinking, “Alright… it’s time.”

Over the past few years, I’ve tested more than a few homemade cleaners. Some left streaks. Some dulled the finish. Some smelled like straight up vinegar. And some smelled wonderful but didn’t actually feel like they cleaned anything.

This essential oil floor cleaner is the one I keep coming back to.

It’s simple, balanced, dries quickly, and has been consistently streak-free on my laminate floors. It also offers natural anti-microbial support thanks to the combination of alcohol, vinegar, and carefully chosen essential oils.

Before we go any further, let me say this clearly: this is not a registered disinfectant or a replacement for heavy-duty cleaners when those are needed. But for everyday home maintenance, this blend has proven to be both practical and effective in our home.

Why This Essential Oil Floor Cleaner Is Effective

What makes this essential oil floor cleaner work is not just the essential oils — it’s the combination of ingredients working together.

Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is widely recognized for helping reduce bacteria on surfaces. It evaporates quickly, which is especially important if you have laminate floors like I do that are not waterproof.

White Vinegar

Vinegar is naturally acidic. That acidity creates an environment where many types of bacteria struggle to thrive. It has been used for generations as a simple, dependable household cleaner.

Essential Oils with Cleansing Support

Certain essential oils have demonstrated antimicrobial activity in research settings. While diluted household use is different from laboratory testing, these oils are well-known for supporting a clean home environment.

Lavender (5 drops)
Lavender helps balance the sharper notes in this blend while contributing natural cleansing properties.

Lemon (5 drops)
Lemon essential oil is bright and fresh and is commonly used for its purifying qualities and ability to cut through grime.

Peppermint (3 drops)
Peppermint adds a crisp finish and provides additional antimicrobial support.

When combined with alcohol and vinegar, these ingredients create a floor cleaner that smells fresh, dries quickly, and leaves surfaces looking clean without residue.

Essential Oil Floor Cleaner Recipe (16 oz Bottle)

I mix this recipe in a 16-ounce amber bottle to protect the essential oils from light and to keep the blend fresh longer.

Ingredients

½ cup filtered water

½ cup white vinegar

½ cup rubbing alcohol

3 drops liquid Castile soap (lavender is my personal preference)

5 drops lavender essential oil

5 drops lemon essential oil

3 drops peppermint essential oil

Why Liquid Castile Soap?
The small amount of liquid Castile soap helps break down dirt and oils on the surface of your floors. It acts as a gentle surfactant, allowing the cleaner to lift grime instead of simply spreading it around. Only a few drops are needed—too much can leave residue—so this keeps the blend effective without creating buildup.

Instructions

Add filtered water, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol to a 16 oz amber bottle.

Add liquid Castile soap.

Add the essential oils.

Secure the lid and gently shake to combine.

Shake lightly before each use.

This easy essential oil floor cleaner recipe is streak-free, fast-drying, and perfect for everyday spring cleaning. Be sure to save or pin it for later.

How I Use This Essential Oil Floor Cleaner

I spray this cleaner lightly directly onto my floors and mop with a washable microfiber mop pad.

Just a light mist — not a heavy spray.

Because my laminate floors are not waterproof, I avoid oversaturating them. The alcohol helps the solution dry quickly, and I’ve found that using a microfiber mop pad distributes the cleaner evenly without leaving streaks.

Everyone’s floors and finishes are different, so I always recommend testing in a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning an entire room.

Important Safety Notes

Always test in a small area before full use.

Avoid oversaturating laminate or hardwood flooring.

Not recommended for unfinished wood surfaces.

Store in an amber bottle away from direct sunlight.

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Use essential oils responsibly and adjust based on your specific flooring type.

Where to Buy High-Quality Essential Oils

Not all essential oils are created equal! To ensure you’re getting the best quality, here are my trusted recommendations:

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean replacing everything in your cabinet.

Sometimes it simply means choosing ingredients you understand, simplifying what you use, and being intentional about the products in your home.

This essential oil floor cleaner has become part of that shift for me — not because it’s trendy, but because it works.

If you enjoy practical blends like this, I’ve created a new category under Essential Oils called Home & Cleaning Blends. I’ll be adding more there as I continue testing and refining recipes that truly hold up in everyday life.

If you try this one, let me know in the comments below how it works in your home — and don’t forget to pin it for later.

And as always, remember I’m praying for you, even if I don’t know who you are.

**Disclaimer:** I am not a medical professional. The information shared in this post is based on personal experience and research. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before using essential oils, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or using them with children. Use essential oils as directed and dilute them properly.

This homemade chicken strips recipe started because of one simple thing: chicken biscuits.

My daughter has recently started loving chicken biscuits.

If you’ve priced one lately when eating out, you already know the cost adds up quickly. For our family, cost is always at the forefront of what we do. But just as important is knowing what’s in our food.

We’ve been slowly moving toward a “cleaner” way of cooking. We’re not fully there, but it’s a work in progress.

The good news? We already make amazing sourdough biscuits (and yes, I’m still working on our fresh milled flour version). Now that we have these homemade chicken strips, we can stack one, maybe even two, inside a warm biscuit, drizzle a little hot honey on top, and according to my daughter, it’s the BEST chicken biscuit ever.

And honestly? I agree.

But this recipe isn’t just about chicken biscuits.

When the kids get hungry and start asking for chicken nuggets or strips, we now have homemade chicken strips ready in the freezer.

Instead of grabbing a store-bought bag, we pull out our own, reheat them in the oven or toaster oven, and dinner or lunch is handled.

We’ve saved money. We know exactly what’s in them. And they taste better.

Why We Love These Homemade Chicken Strips

Freezer-friendly for quick meals

Made with simple ingredients we can pronounce

Lightly crisp on the outside and tender inside

Can be cut into strips or nuggets

Perfect for homemade chicken biscuits

The Real-Life Truth About Frying at Home

Let me be honest. One of the main reasons I make a large batch at one time isn’t just for convenience. It’s because frying makes a mess.

Right now, we don’t have a vent hood. Maybe one day. Until then, we open doors and windows and let the air move through the kitchen. When I fry, it’s a whole production. Grease splatters. Counters need wiping. The stovetop needs attention.

So if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it once and make enough to last.

We don’t fry often, but when we do, we use 100% pure beef tallow that we purchase here. It gives great flavor and handles heat well.

Helpful Notes Before You Make These Homemade Chicken Strips

Marinate the chicken for at least 2 hours. This helps tenderize and flavor the meat.

You do not need to double coat. Simply move the chicken from the marinade straight into the flour mixture and coat generously.

Heat oil to approximately 325–350°F. Adjust heat as needed. If the coating browns too quickly, reduce the heat slightly before frying the next batch.

Fry 4–6 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F. The chicken should feel firm when gently pressed.

If using more than 3 large chicken breasts, you may need to increase the flour coating mixture.

Freezer Instructions

Allow the homemade chicken strips to cool completely after frying.

For best results, lay them flat in a single layer to freeze first. Once frozen solid, transfer to a freezer-safe bag.

Reheat in a 375°F oven or toaster oven until heated through and warmed all the way to the center.

Make a batch of these homemade chicken strips once and keep them in the freezer for quick lunches, dinners, or chicken biscuits. Save this recipe so it’s ready when you need it.

Serving Ideas

Tucked inside a warm sourdough biscuit with hot honey

Served with your favorite dipping sauce

Paired with fresh fruit and a simple side

Chopped and added to salads

We make an amazing sauce to go with these chicken strips that never lasts long. It’s even good on burgers. Maybe soon I’ll share that recipe too.
