A Family Favorite: Easy Vanilla Rice Krispie Treats
There’s something magical about the chaos that fills our kitchen on nights like these. You know the ones—where every burner is going, the counters are full, and everyone is sneaking bites before anything is finished.
This particular night, my son and I were side by side making his favorite dessert—rice krispie treats. And somewhere between melting marshmallows and licking the spoon, it turned into one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever.
Nights like this remind me so much of when we make our Simple Homemade Waffles together—simple recipes, a little mess, and a whole lot of memories.

The Simple Trick That Makes Them Better
We use the classic recipe you’ll find on the cereal box, but we always add one simple ingredient—a teaspoon of vanilla.
It may not seem like much, but it adds a depth of flavor that takes these from basic to something a little more special.
Making Rice Krispie Treats with Kids
If you’ve ever cooked with your kids, you know it’s not always neat—but it’s always worth it.
My son loves watching the marshmallows melt into that gooey mixture. And his favorite part? Adding the vanilla and helping stir everything together.
Baking together has become one of my favorite parts of homemaking—whether it’s treats like this or something like my Your Choice Buns or Rolls when we’re working on dinner together.
Of course, there’s one unspoken rule in our kitchen…
He always gets the spoon.

A Sweet Memory Worth Repeating
Later that evening, we packed these up for church, and just like always—they were a hit.
But honestly, the best part wasn’t how they tasted.
It was the time spent in the kitchen together.
That’s what I want you to take with you from this recipe. Yes, it’s simple. Yes, it’s quick. But it’s also an opportunity.
An opportunity to slow down, invite your kids in, and create something more than just a dessert.
