Essential Oils and Simple Wellness Habits for Fall
Fall wellness habits do not have to be complicated to make a difference in the rhythm of your home. As the weather begins to cool, school routines settle into place, calendars fill up, and families spend more time indoors, I find myself paying closer attention to the small choices that help support our family through the season.
Over the years, I have learned that fall wellness habits are rarely about one magic solution. Instead, they are usually a collection of simple choices made consistently over time. For our family, those habits include homemade elderberry syrup, being mindful of sugar intake, prioritizing rest when possible, drinking enough water, spending time in prayer, and using essential oils as one part of our seasonal routine.
None of these habits are complicated on their own, but together they help create a foundation that supports our family during the busy fall and winter months.
Why Fall Wellness Habits Matter
One thing I have noticed over the years is that healthy habits are often the first things to disappear when life gets busy. We stay up later than we should, rely on convenience foods more often, and tell ourselves we will slow down next week. Before long, the routines that help us feel our best have quietly slipped away.
That is why I try to focus on simple fall wellness habits before they are needed. Building healthy routines during everyday life tends to be much easier than scrambling to create them when schedules are already full.
For me, wellness is not about perfection. It is about consistently making small choices that support the overall well-being of my family.
Why We Keep Homemade Elderberry Syrup on Hand
One of the seasonal habits that has become part of our fall and winter routine is homemade elderberry syrup. I prefer making it with quality ingredients, including local honey whenever possible. Not only does local honey taste wonderful, but I also enjoy supporting local beekeepers whenever I can.
As the weather cools, making elderberry syrup has become one of those familiar rhythms that signals a new season. Right alongside pulling out sweaters, baking more often, and settling into fall routines, elderberry syrup finds its place in our kitchen.
I’ve been considering offering a dried Elderberry Syrup Kit through Macon Sweet Farms, with pre-measured elderberries, ginger, star anise, cinnamon sticks, and cloves, plus instructions for making your own syrup at home.
While kits aren’t available right now, I’d love to know what you think! Would an elderberry syrup kit be something you’d enjoy? Leave a comment below—your feedback will help me as I consider offering them in the future.

Fall Wellness Habits Start with Everyday Choices
When people think about wellness, they often look for one thing that will make the biggest difference. In my experience, the most helpful fall wellness habits are usually the simple, everyday choices we make consistently.
Now, before anyone worries that I am about to tell you to stop baking pumpkin bread, let’s clear something up. If you have followed Makin’ Macon for very long, you know I enjoy baking far too much for that conversation.
What I have learned, however, is that fall and winter are good seasons to be mindful of how much sugar we are consuming on a regular basis. Enjoying seasonal treats is part of the fun, but balance matters too.
For our family, that means enjoying desserts while still prioritizing balanced meals, protein, fruits, vegetables, and plenty of water. Wellness is often found in consistency rather than extremes.
Rest Is One of the Most Overlooked Fall Wellness Habits
One of the simplest wellness habits is also one of the easiest to overlook.
Rest.
When schedules become full, sleep is often the first thing sacrificed. Unfortunately, our bodies tend to notice. I have learned that rest is not something we earn after everything on our to-do list is finished. Rest is one of the ways we care for ourselves and our families.
Whether that means going to bed a little earlier, protecting a slower evening at home, or simply allowing yourself time to recover when needed, rest plays an important role in overall wellness.
Using Essential Oils as Part of Fall Wellness Habits
Among all the fall wellness habits we practice, essential oils are probably one of the simplest to incorporate into our daily routine. I enjoy diffusing oils throughout the day, adding them to room sprays, and occasionally using rollers when properly diluted.
While I do not view essential oils as a replacement for healthy habits or medical care, I do appreciate the atmosphere they help create in our home. One blend I return to year after year is my Immunity Boosting Blend. It has become one of my favorite diffuser blends during the fall and winter months because of its fresh, clean aroma.
Immunity Boosting Diffuser Blend
Add the following oils to your diffuser according to your diffuser’s instructions:
🍋 3 drops lemon
💜 3 drops Lavender
🍃 3 drops Peppermint
This blend creates a fresh, clean scent that works well during the cooler months of the year and can be enjoyed throughout your home.
While this blend has been a favorite in our home for years, I view it as one part of a broader wellness routine that includes homemade elderberry syrup, healthy food choices, hydration, rest, and prayer.
Turn the Immunity Boosting Blend Into a Wellness Roller
If you prefer rollers, it is easy to adapt this blend for a 10 ml roller bottle.
Wellness Roller Recipe
🍋 3 drops Lemon
💜 3 drops Lavender
🍃 3 drops Peppermint
Fill the remainder of the bottle with your preferred carrier oil. Replace the roller top and gently roll the bottle between your hands to combine.
Apply to wrists or the back of the neck as desired. Always patch test first and follow proper dilution guidelines.
A Gentle Reminder About Health and Faith
One of the things I appreciate most about Scripture is the reminder that we can take practical steps while still trusting God with the outcome. We can make wise choices, build healthy routines, care for our families, and steward our bodies well, but we do not have to live in fear.
Isaiah 41:10 reminds us:
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”
As another fall season begins, my encouragement is simple: build healthy habits, take practical steps to care for your family, and trust God with the things that are beyond your control.
The best fall wellness habits are often the simple ones we practice consistently throughout the season. They may not be flashy or complicated, but over time they become part of the rhythms that help us care well for ourselves and the people we love.
