Spring Refresh – Renewing Spiritual and Practical Areas of Life
Spring Refresh is a season of renewal—a time to shake off the dust of winter and embrace fresh beginnings. I love stepping outside on those first warm mornings, hearing the birds sing a little louder, and seeing tiny buds appear on the trees. It’s like nature itself is waking up, stretching toward the sun, and reminding us that fresh starts are always possible. In our homes and hearts, we can use this season to clear away what no longer serves us and create space for new growth. I don’t know about you, but there are places in my home that have things hidden behind doors that haven’t seen the light of day in quite some time.
However, this Spring Refresh is about more than just cleaning (which we will still cover)—it’s about renewing our spirits, homes, and routines for a season of peace and purpose.
Refreshing Your Soul This Spring
Before we start decluttering our homes, let’s start with our hearts.
Psalm 51:10 states, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
This verse convicts me deeply – “and renew a right spirit within me.” Whew! Sometimes we need a spirit check. We tend to overlook our attitudes and how they are affecting those around us. Something I try making a habit of is asking God to check my spirit EVERY SINGLE TIME I pray. I ask Him to examine me and make sure that there isn’t anything hidden inside that I don’t realize or that I might possibly be in denial of. Admit it! You’re the same way. We all have areas we struggle to acknowledge before God.
Here are a few ways you can refresh your soul:
- Release what’s weighing you down: Whether it’s bitterness, fear, or distractions, take this time to let go.
- Renew your daily time with God: Start a new devotional (like our FREE 5-day devotional), set aside quiet moments for prayer, or find a new Scripture to focus on.
- Fill your home with peace: Play worship music, diffuse calming essential oils (lavender and frankincense are my go-to!), and create an atmosphere of faith.
- Welcome spiritual growth: What new habits or goals can you set this season? More time in the Word? Serving others?
Decluttering & Organizing with Purpose
Spring is the perfect time to simplify our homes and make space for peace.
I’ve already stated it before—if you’re like me, there are places inside your home (and probably outside as well) that have been waiting for you to get through them. I have a few spots in mind as I write this. Honestly, it’s a little embarrassing. I keep telling myself I’m too busy to get to it right now. But deep down, I know I’d feel so much lighter if I just tackled those spaces!
I know it’s easy to put it off, but it’s time to get in there and take care of things. No more procrastination—just one step at a time!
Here are a few ways to tackle the clutter with purpose:
- Declutter one space at a time: Focus on what truly serves your family. Donate or repurpose what no longer fits.
- Deep clean with intention: Open windows, dust forgotten corners, and freshen up linens and fabrics. (My 4-week cleaning schedule helps so much with this!)
- Refresh the kitchen & pantry: Get rid of expired items (unless you’re like me and believe canned goods are fine if they’re not dented past their date!).
- Simplify homemaking routines: Create a schedule that works for this season of life—less stress, more joy!
Bringing New Life into Your Home
Are you one of those people who likes to move furniture around multiple times a year? (hand raised!) I’m guilty. But over time, I’ve found that small seasonal changes make a big difference without causing chaos. Rearranging a space, swapping out decor, or even just adding a few fresh touches can create a sense of renewal and keep your home feeling vibrant for each new season.
Here are a few small updates that can bring new life into your home:
- Add natural beauty: Fresh flowers, light linens, and open windows for fresh air.
- Make homemade cleaners: DIY recipes with essential oils bring freshness without toxins. (Vinegar + essential oils + a little water = my secret weapon!)
- Create a welcoming atmosphere: A tidy entryway, cozy reading nook, or a family space that invites connection.
- Embrace slow living: Light a candle, bake fresh bread, and savor the small moments of homemaking.
Preparing for Growth Outdoors
Probably my favorite part of moving into spring! I LOVE being outdoors. There’s just something about the fresh air, the scent of blooming flowers, and the warmth of the sun on my skin that fills me with energy and joy.
Last year, I struggled with health issues that kept me inside. No sun for me. I was MISERABLE! I love piddling outside, working in the yard, and just soaking up nature.
I’ve tried maintaining a garden, but I haven’t mastered it yet. However, I have finally figured out how to keep flowers alive! (My family used to joke that every plant I brought home was “coming home to die” — but I proved them wrong!)
Here are some great ways to prep for spring outside:
- Start a small garden: Even a windowsill of fresh herbs can add life and flavor. Or, plant zinnias and let them go wild! (They reseed themselves!)
- Tidy up outdoor spaces: Clean porches, patios, and walkways to enjoy the fresh air.
- Create family traditions: A weekly picnic, sunset walk, or planting something together.
- Connect with God’s creation: Use nature as a place of prayer and reflection. (I’ve even set up a prayer walk on my property!)
Spring Homemaking Challenge: Simple & Intentional
Let’s break it down into bite-sized goals for an easier, more enjoyable refresh:
✨ Declutter one area per week (junk drawer, closet, pantry, under the sink).
✨ Refresh one routine to simplify homemaking. (My 4-week cleaning schedule is perfect for this!)
✨ Try one new homemade recipe or DIY. I’m testing one now just for you! (Results coming Wednesday!)
✨ Set one faith-based goal for spiritual growth. (The most important thing of all!)
Spring is our chance to renew, refresh, and refocus—not just in our homes but in our hearts and daily routines. What small change can you make today that will bring peace and renewal into your life? Whether it’s decluttering a space, starting a new habit, or simply pausing to appreciate the beauty of the season, let’s embrace this opportunity to welcome growth and fresh beginnings together.—not just in our homes but in our faith and daily rhythms. By clearing out the clutter and embracing what truly matters, we can create a space of peace and joy for our families.
