Senate Bean Soup

Do you like soups around this time of the year?  I do.  I love making warm dishes for dinner.  I love them even more when I don’t have to spend all day making them.  Senate Bean Soup is one of those dishes.

If you are like me, you may wonder how this dish received its name or where it originated from.  I did some research for you.  You can check it out on the United States Senate page. Plus, they even list the recipe on their site.

I will admit that I personally did not make these. Remember me telling you that my husband wasn’t concerned with the fact that I couldn’t cook when we married? It was one of the things my mother was sure to stress to him. He said then that he didn’t care because he could cook for both of us. This was one of those times. He made these per my request and added some homemade buttermilk cornbread to go with it.

YUM!

However, I will tell you that my husband is notorious for not following directions. He always tells me that it’s just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It frustrates me to no end when I’m trying to make something and he walks in wanting to help and just starts throwing stuff together. Most of the time, I just tell him to go away and let me follow the directions. We have a good laugh over it later, but it’s hard for me, a direction-follower, to just throw something together without having a recipe in front of me.

I said all of that to let you know that I am sure he probably added something to our soup in the process of making it. Yet he did say the directions are spot on and you, my friend, should have no trouble recreating this soup.

Be sure to invite some friends over to enjoy it with you, as there will be plenty to share!

Maybe sometime soon I will share with you my husband’s recipe for cornbread. IF I can ever narrow him down for exact measurements. For those of you who like to remain low-carb but enjoy eating beans on occasion, I will soon share with you my recipe for keto cornbread. It is the one homemade keto bread that I can actually get behind. Even my son loves it!

Remember, you can find the recipe here, U.S. Senate: About Traditions & Symbols | Senate Bean Soup, along with its history.
