Have you ever felt like God was asking you to do something… and your immediate reaction was, “You’ve got the wrong girl”? Yeah. Same.

In this first-ever episode of the Makin’ Macon: Encouragement in Chaos podcast, I’m sharing what it looked like to step out in obedience—even when every excuse tried to keep me from it.

This post is a companion to Episode 1: Obedience Over Excuses where I get real about my insecurities, my Susan-isms, and why I finally said “yes” to something I felt completely unqualified to do.

When God Calls, Go—Even If You Feel Unqualified

When the Lord first laid podcasting on my heart, I came up with every reason why I couldn’t do it:

  • I don’t have time
  • I’m not a speaker
  • My words don’t come out right
  • What if no one listens?

But here’s what I’ve learned—God isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for obedience. The kind of obedience Saul missed out on in 1 Samuel 15, when he spared what he thought was best instead of obeying God completely. Samuel reminded him, “To obey is better than sacrifice.”

Whew. That one hits home.

Obedience doesn’t mean it’s easy. But it does mean you’re walking with the One who called you. And that makes all the difference.

Why I Started the Podcast

This podcast was never about having extra time. It was about needing encouragement—just like you. A safe place to laugh, cry, and find a little grace in the chaos of marriage, motherhood, and ministry.

I’m not a polished speaker. I’m a real-life woman with a coffee in one hand, a little boy asking questions in the background, and a heart that just wants to point others to Jesus. That’s it. And if He can use this mess—He can use yours too.

One Funny but Convicting Moment

Right before vacation, my son announced he was turning his tablet on “personal mode”—his version of Do Not Disturb—so we could spend uninterrupted time together. Funny? Yes. Convicting? Absolutely. Even my child could see how distracted our lives had become.

That moment reminded me of the Martha and Mary story. We all have Martha-sized to-do lists. But God still calls us to choose the better part—to sit at His feet.

Encouragement for You

This episode is for the woman folding laundry, wiping tears, showing up even when it’s hard. It’s for the one who feels unseen, unqualified, or just plain exhausted. Sister, you’re not alone—and you are absolutely called.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing.

So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and join me. I’ll be over here fumbling through obedience right along with you.

Until next time—remember: I’m always praying for you, even if I don’t know who you are.
