Last week I featured an amazing recipe for Easy Shredded Chicken. I just couldn’t help but add this simple Homemade Taco Seasoning recipe this week. Especially since it is getting closer to fall and soup recipes will be posted on here soon. Even my husband’s famous Chili recipe.
Here is the thing. I get a little wonky when it comes to the ingredients in my food. Now, I’m probably not as hard core as some people, but I do like to know what I am feeding my family. Over the last several years, I have begun making the switch over to more natural ingredients and learning how to cook more from scratch. I’ve talked some about my journey in previous blog post. It’s been hard, but I have been determined.
I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late twenties, after years of no doctor ever being able to tell me what was wrong with me, only to just be shoved medication to help me through it. After having my first, I was then diagnosed with endometriosis and told the only option would be surgery to remove it. In doing this, there was no guarantee that it wouldn’t return. In the meantime, I had to take large doses of ibuprofen to manage the pain.
You can imagine my frustration. Especially when the ibuprofen would no longer help the pain. That combined with the fact that ibuprofen and metformin both can cause damage to the liver and kidney’s. That’s when I decided it was time to take my health into my own hands.
After doing lots of research, I found that there are a lot of things out there that cause inflammation. I began by eliminating those. It worked! I slowly changed my diet, stopped eating fast food (unless I had no other choice…I will almost starve first), and began learning how to read the ingredient labels on my foods.
All of this made me realize that if ingredients were doing what they did to my body, then what in the world is it doing to my kids!!!
I know it is convenient to just grab taco seasoning at the store. However, this is just as simple, cheaper, AND better for you and your family. All you need to do is simply mix all the ingredients and store in an airtight container for future use.
I do this with pancake mix and the infamous chocolate gravy!
This recipe is not my own. I take no credit for it. I will say that my husband has made it as well and he ALWAYS puts his little touch on it such as making it lower sodium. Me, I’m gonna follow those instructions to the tee. That’s just the way we are both different. I’m not as adventurous.
My family loves this recipe, and you can add as little or as much as you like to your recipes. PLUS, like I said before, I have a soup recipe coming soon that you can utilize this in as well.
Leave me a comment below if you try it out. I hope you enjoy! Here is your link: Homemade Taco Seasoning
