Are you exhausted from carrying a load that feels too heavy? Maybe you’re smiling on the outside, but inside you’re wondering how much more you can take. If that’s you—you’re not alone. It’s in moments like this when we have to decide whether we’ll keep striving on our own, or finally give it all to God.

I’ve been going through a season that seems to last an eternity. And it’s in seasons like this when I’ve had to learn what it truly means to give it all to God—to stop carrying the weight alone and trust Him to sustain me. Honestly, it feels like living near the equator—where the seasons never really change. According to National Geographic, those regions stay in either a long rainy or dry season year-round.

“Places near the Equator experience little seasonal variation. They have about the same amount of daylight and darkness throughout the year. These places remain warm year-round. Near the Equator, regions typically have alternating rainy and dry seasons.”

Unlike those of us who get the occasional break between extremes, equatorial regions rarely see that sweet relief. And lately, my spirit has felt like that—no relief, no change, just more to carry.

This isn’t to say I’m an unhappy person. Quite the opposite. I’m naturally optimistic and tend to find the good in things. But as I’ve aged, I’ve learned to take off the rose-colored glasses and see life more clearly. And when a hard season lasts longer than expected, you start to wonder: Is God still listening? Did He leave me here for a reason I haven’t figured out yet? Does He really think I can handle all of this?

This is raw. This is real. This is me—standing in the middle of a never-ending season asking, “How much more, Lord?”

Just when I think the load is lightening, something gets added. My knees start to wobble. My mind races. I try to strategize how to carry it all. And then—God shows up. Not always by removing the burden, but by giving peace in the middle of it.

Give It All to God—Even When the Weight Won’t Lift

See, here’s the thing: giving it all to God doesn’t always mean your circumstances will change—but it does mean you won’t face them alone. His peace can meet you right in the middle of the heaviness.

One night before church, I was exhausted—mentally, physically, spiritually. My to-do list was swirling in my head during preservice prayer, but I pushed through and started praising. I wasn’t asking for anything. Just praising.

Suddenly, I felt a whoosh—like a sigh of relief swept over me. It was the breath of God. And then I heard it in my spirit:

“Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” —1 Peter 5:7

I grabbed my Bible. Psalm 55:22 jumped out:

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

It wasn’t just a verse—it was a lifeline. It was as if the Lord came up under my arms and helped me to stand. He didn’t take the burden away—but He made me strong enough to carry it.

Save this reminder for later—God doesn’t always take away the burden, but He will give you strength to stand.

What Really Happens When You Give It All to God

Merriam-Webster defines sustain as “maintained at length without interruption or weakening.” And that phrase—without interruption—stopped me in my tracks.

If you’ve ever had kids, tried to finish a project, or just attempted to have a complete thought without being interrupted, you understand how rare that is. But not with God. His sustaining presence isn’t scattered or conditional.

There are no breaks. No lapses. No off-duty moments. He will sustain you without interruption. That means even when you feel like you’re falling apart—He’s still holding you together. No weakening. No gaps. No silence.

Strong’s Concordance adds: “to support, endure.”

So when we give it all to God, we aren’t promised an escape—but we are promised support. He will hold us up, keep us steady, and help us endure.

Even after that sacred moment, my season didn’t end. In fact, it got harder. I found myself back on my knees again—praying, confused, brokenhearted. But I knew—I knew—God was sustaining me.

When You’re Desperate to Hear from God—Give It All to Him

My knees hit the floor. I was staying near the equator—aka the Savior. I was pressing into His presence with everything I had. I usually don’t ask the Lord to have a man of God speak directly to me. I let Him do what He does best and trust His timing. But this time, I was desperate. I knew what I had felt—I knew that whoosh of relief was real and very needed in that moment. But when the battle started raging again, I wanted confirmation.

I wanted a man of God to look me in the eyes and tell me what I needed to hear. And two days later, that’s exactly what happened. He looked me square in the eyes and said, “Sis, God said to tell you that you can do this. God is going to help you through it. You CAN do what He has called you to do. God says you are up to the task.”

No one knew that prayer. Only God. I had written it down in my journal—I had whispered it through tears on my knees. And He answered.

I’m holding on to those words. I’m holding on to the peace God gave me. I’m holding on to the truth that He will sustain me—even when I don’t know how these ol’ shoulders can take any more weight.

Peace Comes When You Truly Give It All to God

Hebrews 13:5 reminds us:

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

It all comes full circle—back to contentment. (Read more in my blog post How to Be Content in Every Season)

Being content isn’t passive. It’s active surrender. It’s choosing to abide, to rest, to trust—even when it still feels heavy.

You don’t have to do it all. But you do have to let Him carry what you can’t.
