Nice to Meet You

Welcome to Makin’ Macon, a place where I love to share encouragement for families, marriage, ministry, and homemaking.

Hello! I’m Susan and I am a wife of a pastor, mother of two, and homemaker.  I grew up as a Pastor’s kid in a small town in Tennessee.  As a child, family was very important.  Often you would find the family gathered together riding ATV’s (three-wheelers in my day), spending lazy summers riding bicycles, or traipsing through the woods.  Even when my parents had to preach out of town, they would make sure to include something fun in the trip.  I look back on these memories and believe it has something to do with how I view the importance of family today.

I have a passion for learning new things within the home such as: sourdough, home cooking, gardening, home remedies, DIY’s, or learning a new song.  In my free time, you will find me in the kitchen testing out some new recipe I have recently found with my little boy by my side.  Other times you might find me out in my yard tending to my flowers or trying to keep my vegetable garden alive.

I have two dogs and a cat. Teddy Bear, Chase, and Cheez-It.  I will say though, they are more for my children than myself.

We currently own a freeze dried candy business called Macon Sweet Farms.  If you have never tried freeze dried candy or even fruit, you definitely need to.  Of all we have made, freeze dried Jello is my favorite.  You can find Macon Sweet Farms on Instagram and Facebook.

About My FAmily

Our journey started back in 1998 when Doug and I, just young kids, fell in love.  See the thing is we never really liked each other and then suddenly became “just friends”.  I like to think our relationship proves that God really does have a sense of humor.  25 years later and we are still working on our marriage and falling more in love with each other every day.

I never knew what all God would have in store for us and our family, but I knew I always wanted to be working for Him.  Being obedient to God’s calling gave me two beautiful children of which are both miracles from God.

However, life isn’t always easy and I have had sorrow in the midst of joy.  In 2013, I lost a precious boy at 21 weeks.  Yet I am here to say that “to everything there is a season.  A time for every purpose under Heaven:…” Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV.

I felt a drawing to start a blog about our journey from the beginning until present day.  This blog is meant to be an encouragement to those seeking for help in their marriages, family, homemaking, and ministry.  I won’t begin to tell you that I know it all.  In fact, I will be the first to tell you that I am still growing and learning.

Life can be a little chaotic at times and sometimes I just don’t know what to do.  I know that I need to lean on God, but I still would like to hear a little word of encouragement during the chaos.  That is my hope in creating this blog: that you find ENCOURAGEMENT IN CHAOS.
