Nice to Meet You!

Hi friend—I’m Susan Raynor. I’m a pastor’s wife, mom of two, homemaker, and the voice behind Makin’ Macon. If your life feels a little chaotic sometimes, you’re in the right place. This space was born out of my own need for peace in the middle of the mess—and my hope is to pass along that same encouragement to you.

I grew up in a small Tennessee town as a pastor’s kid. Family was everything. Whether we were riding three-wheelers, pedaling bikes on hot summer days, or tagging along on preaching trips with my parents, we were together—and those memories shaped how I view the value of family today.

I’ve always loved learning new things that make our home feel more grounded—like baking sourdough, cooking from scratch, experimenting with home remedies, or starting a garden (and praying something grows). Most days, you’ll find me in the kitchen trying a new recipe with my little boy beside me, or outside talking to my flowers like they can hear me.

I’m no expert, and I won’t pretend to have it all figured out. What I do have is a heart that beats for women and families trying to love well and live faithfully through every season—especially the messy ones.

About My Family

Our story began back in 1998—two kids who didn’t like each other one bit… and then suddenly became “just friends.” (You know where this is going.) Turns out, God had a plan—and a sense of humor. That “just friends” thing turned into forever. Now, over 25 years later, we’re still figuring it out—still learning, growing, and falling more in love with each other through every season.

I always knew I wanted to work for the Lord, but I had no idea what He had in store for us. Through every twist and turn, He’s been faithful. He gave us two beautiful children—true miracles—and one precious baby boy we lost at 21 weeks. That loss is woven into our story, and while it still brings tears, it also brings purpose. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds me, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven.”

If you want the full scoop—how we went from eye rolls to “I do,” and a little more about our kids and the baby we hold in our hearts—you can read those stories on the blog. (Grab some tissues and maybe a snack… it’s a ride.)

This space, Makin’ Macon, grew out of all those moments. The joyful ones. The hard ones. The ones where you’re laughing through tears, and the ones where you’re just trying to figure out what to cook for dinner while someone is crying in the hallway (possibly you). It’s here to offer Encouragement in Chaos, because real life is messy—and God meets us right there in the middle of it.
